February Poem/s
1.
In bed she said like a punchline
I'll see all you splatterers
Eyes like a million mirrors shatter
trilled the Lady from Shanghai
midnite Spadina is sum dim freeze
& when I'm mean, it means nothing
Many Maries stared from the window
perfumed sweat & cigarettes
stained glass on a dull brick strip
Home, cold roses in February
2.
Easy glance, sidelong an alley
slimed brick & dripping eaves
traces love leaves
gouged glacial valley
3.
God a stranger
cries on the streetcar
& I say I am but
the salt crust
shows no record
home she hustled
like a wash
the floor rubber
4.
Sky jigsaws through rooftops
paper hearts drop
corpuscles from the crack
(blood into syringe,
chimney plunges them back)
fly, love, flutter & flee
& then the storm & anvil black
heavy, murmur of heaven
(it's blue on the way back)
