Yesterday and Today, 2

The sharks of the clothesline run you down
loneliness lets its lovely lips linger on the rim-around-your-eyes
in "the boot" a two-four of Blue
brought in through the back yard from the alley

If island fantasies have come to this, it's
pretty far for a white girl to fly, and why should she?
It's tedious, a meat scene, and accelerated senescence
under the sun with her crystal-ball earrings

The bearings fall out of my improvised explosive device
& are forever lost (with a harmless handclap and a sneeze)

I don't want to be wise, that's dumb and for old guys
I'm clueless as everyone.

After the party, morning's fiery tundra
slides off the neighbour's roof, falls through the window
and into the bedroom. Hello brightness! Stark light!
Whiteness shaming the sheets & the languid
mess of stranded flesh

Who looks in, which horny ornery beast of the city
considers his next move, whether aggression
is in some circumstances justified
or whether the rent forbids this of us.
